Nusano is selected for a federal critical-materials project

The U.S. Department of Energy selected West Valley City-based Nusano as one of nine companies entering award negotiations for projects to recover critical minerals and other valuable materials from industrial feedstocks. The nine selections total $162 million, but individual awards are not final.

A St. George startup is testing unmanned aircraft for wildfire response

Baxter Aerospace is testing its third Dragonfly prototype and building a fourth at its St. George facility. The company says the 80-pound unmanned aircraft is designed to stream infrared imagery over long-duration flights, including at night when manned firefighting aircraft are grounded.

Why it matters

The effort connects Southern Utah’s aerospace workforce with an urgent public-safety problem and the state’s expanding advanced-air-mobility test infrastructure.

Utah added an estimated 25,200 nonfarm payroll jobs over the year ending in July, a 1.4% increase, bringing statewide employment to approximately 1.78 million jobs.
