Utah’s future will be shaped by how well we connect ambitious people, breakthrough research, patient capital and public leadership around the opportunities that matter most. My perspective comes from building and exiting Rustico, working in private banking and venture capital, helping launch a student-run venture fund, serving nine years in the Utah House of Representatives—including as House Majority Leader—and working across higher education and public policy. Today, as Commissioner of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and CEO of the Nucleus Institute, I focus on strengthening the connections among entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, industry and government so Utah can turn emerging opportunities into lasting statewide prosperity.
